What Will the Workforce Look Like in 2025?

As the transformation of the workforce brings more flexible alternatives to the traditional, full-time permanent position, it is time for companies to re-think the way they categorize employees. A recent Randstad study of more than 3,100 workers and 1,500 HR and c-suite executives revealed some surprising numbers about how some companies are preparing for this shift.

A new wave of workers is pursuing a flexible workplace approach because they see more opportunity for growth, authority, and job stability and this trend has not gone unnoticed by most companies. In fact, the Randstad study found that as early as 2019, as much as 50 percent of the workforce will be comprised of agile workers. Even more surprising? By the year 2025, 70% of workers and 68% of employers agree a majority of the workforce will be employed in as contractors, consultants, temporary or freelancers.

Here are some noteworthy findings:

  • 52 percent of c-suite executives say their organizations will be much more committed to building an agile workforce by 2025.
  • 89 percent of employers believe that companies are going to incorporate both traditional and agile worker by 2025.
  • 68 percent of the standard workforce expects to be comprised of agile talent within the next eight years.
  • 60 percent of companies expect to find difficulty staying up-to-date on legal and operational best practices associated with managing that workforce.
  • 39 percent of full-time workers are considering moving to an agile worker position in the next three years.
